This little work is intended for the Homeopathy student, the busy practitioner and anyone interested in Homeopathy who is deciding which remedy to choose. It is a quick easy reference to refresh the mind. This system of learning the Homeopathy Materia Medica in a story form is simple, fun, stress-free and most importantly, memorable. It takes away the anxiety and stress when studying the Materia Medica and leaves you more time to study and understand the Theory of Homeopathy. The Homeopathy Materia Medica Study Guide Complement came about by pure accident. When I was a student, studying for the homeopathy exams was horrendous. Trying to remember the physical and mental symptoms, the modalities, the peculiar, queer, rare and strange characteristics and the clinical indications for all the homeopathic remedies soon became extremely confusing and stressful. I love to write and I began writing stories that incorporated the remedy picture. I exaggerated the characters and put them in surroundings that were vivid, colourful and wild. To have included every single characteristic and organ affected in a story of a particular remedy would be a near impossibility. I was guided at the time by the course curriculum and predominantly Frans Vermeulen’s Concordant Materia Medica. Everything that is underlined in the Homeopathy Materia Medica Study Guide Complement story is to be remembered and is part of the Materia Medica of that Remedy.
This book concentrates on three chronic Miasms: Psoric, Syphilitic and Sycotic
The word “Miasma” is a Greek word, which means ‘taint or contamination’ It is a predisposition to chronic disease underlying the acute manifestation of illness. This predisposition to chronic disease is either hereditary or acquired/activated by suppression of disease or suppression of normal bodily function. Samuel Hahnemann thought of his theory of chronic disease in the years 1816-1817 although he did not make his theories public for another decade. Hahnemann found that in a large number of chronic diseases that despite the administration of carefully selected homoeopathic remedies the disease continued. After careful study, Hahnemann found a pattern that could be related to Psora, Sycosis and Syphilis-the chronic miasms.
After researching the miasms I came to realise how imperative knowledge of their states are. Before we can begin to find a similimum for a client, we must first know which miasm either acute, chronic or latent the client is in. In this book I have tried to capture the essence of the three Chronic Miasms in a story form. The three characters in the tale: Psora, the priest and the judge represent the three miasms: Psoric, Syphilitic and Sycotic respectively. I concentrated on the mental states of the miasms and did not include the physical generals.
